PocketBook Releases A7 Android Tablet

PocketBook has finally released its A7 android tablet. It was last year that pocketbook had launched its 10-inch A10 slate. This time the manufacturer pocketbook comes with a 7 inch tablet that is powered by android 2.3.7 Gingerbread operating system. A7 can be utilized as an e-reader as well as a regular tablet.

The A7 Android Tablet comes with a 7″ capacitive touchscreen with the resolution of 1024 x 600. It has a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor and a PowerVR SGX530 GPU. The device will have a 4GB of internal storage, external memory can be further extended with the help of SD card, 512 MB RAM, full android market support, front facing 2 megapixel camera. The device will also have a stereo speakers as well as headphone jack for entertainment purposes.

As it has been already mentioned it is an e book reader as well as a tablet. So that’s why it will support maximum file formats including WAV, MP3, MKV, AVI, MP4, EPUB, PDF, FB2, TXZT, HTML, DOC, and more. It will be available in white plastic case and will have a weight of about 410 grams. Currently we don’t have much information about the price of the tablet and when it will be made available in the markets.

Much depends at what is the price of the tablet? There are lots of tablets coming up and which have lots of features then the one that pocketbook is offering here. So i would wait and first check out the price of the tablet and then only go with it.

So here is a good news for all the Counter Strike fans and it is that an unofficial port of the game is now available for Android tablets, it has been ported to the Android operating system by the XDA developers, this Android version of Counter Strike is said to be supporting full multiplayer game and it is even available for the download and you can even get it for the Facebook as well as the Kongregate versions, Source say that the XDA Developers are working for 2 versions, one is for version 50 and it is for the devices which runs on Android 2.0+ and the other is a 6p version for the tablets running on Android 2.3+. The other good news for the people having Sony’s Xperia Play device or say advantage is that they can use different devices on the Xperia Play as the device is having improved controls. People who are interested can definitely check it out.

Yes I have came across this news and I have also said that by now over 25 million units of this unofficial Counter Strike has been ported to Android devices. Even I am willing to try out the same but then since it is unofficial and has been ported by hackers I think that there will be a lot of bugs, even though I am not very sure about the same but then I will be waiting for its review from the fellow fans of the Counter Strike. I have checked out some matrix mode videos and they look awesome but then I doubt that controls will be easy for the other devices and tablets.

Watch the Darkness 2 Official Trailer

Finally the Darkness 2 will be arriving for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 if everything goes according to the plan that they have made, The very first Darkness was released a way back in 2007 and everyone was waiting to check out the Darkness 2 as it was announced to be releasing in the month of July in 2011 but letting their fans wait for a long time and delays the Darkness 2 has been finally announced to be releasing in the month of Feb most probably February 7th 2012, it will be arriving first in North America and then in Europe by February 10, 2012, Sources say that the game developers have added “quad wielding” which is said to be a new combat feature, this feature will probably allow Jackie Estacado(Game leading character) to use the firearms as well as the Darkness at the same time. Darkness 2 playable demo has been released for PC , XBox 360 and PS3 and it is 1.4GB in size. You all can check out the official trailer below:

YouTube, being launched in early December as a new model, but so far outside of the home page and video playback, the changes remained purely cosmetic. The video streaming site has recently redesigned the page navigation and editing tools.

Unlike the home page, the page "Search" does not appear in the form of a stream, but still it meets several criteria. The user can start to filter by category (news, humor, science, travel, etc.), with a sidebar. For instance, it can then find the most viewed video for today, the most popular for globally and a selection of channels. If it does not filter any category, personal recommendations are also presented to it.

The video editor in turn, provides the basic functions of a mounting solution, that inaugurates a new timeline, now wearing a read head. Using the shortcut function for its part been facilitated.

Besides aesthetics given to the style of the day, the video manager hosts a historical research and an improved display of publications planned. Finally, the functions previously proposed and then withdrawn, in this case, sorting by "I do" / "I do not like" and popularity, are back.

All these developments have begun to be deployed on Thursday and will be progressively available for all YouTube users.

Mozilla will discontinue support for Windows 2000 and XP SP1

Asa Dotzler, director of development on the Classic Edition of Firefox, announced that the browser will no longer be supported for users who do not have at least Windows XP SP2.

M. Dotlzer says that for several years, the Firefox development tools have not been updated specifically for compatibility with Windows 2000 and Windows XP RTM and SP1. However, "99.6% of Firefox users have had to pay for this support. Indeed, it would have prevented developers enjoy the benefits of a more recent compiler while depriving FOR IMPLEMENTING significant new features like SPDY".

Mozilla will use Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 now, a decision resulting in the abandonment of these versions of Windows. Specifically, they will no longer receive any updates from June 5, that is to say that when Firefox is available in 12 stable version.

Asa Dotzler added that after that date "a migration to Opera will be probably the best thing to do" for users of Windows 2000. For others, the man advised course of updating Windows XP with new versions of Service Pack.

Download Nvidia GeForce 295.51 drivers Beta version

Nvidia has released a beta version of its upcoming GeForce drivers 295.51, on tuesday. Though, they have not introduced major innovation, but it corrects some bugs and improves especially the list of games compatible with 3D Vision and SLI profiles.

Although they inaugurated a new branch in the numbering adopted by Nvidia (from 290 to 295 branch), no real novelty can be reported to the driver menu of Nvidia released this Tuesday evening.

Stamped 295.51 and proposed for now, as a test version (beta) reserved for Windows, it still has got some opportunity to correct some deficiencies, such as the one causing the rotation of the fan at maximum speed of certain GeForce GTX 590 while it was not necessary.

Five SLI profiles have been introduced or updated for the following games: 7554, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Mass Effect 3, Oil Rush and Red Faction: Armageddon.

In terms of 3D Vision, it has the new, more substantial, with the possibility of such relief display in windowed mode, and the appearance (or updating) a large number of profiles, which can be seen in the list via at its dedicated page here.

Motorola RAZR XT910 Developer Edition with unlockable bootloader Announced

The manufacturer Motorola announced a new edition of the RAZR that will have an unlocked bootloader.

On its blog dedicated to developers, Motorola announced that European consumers will soon be able to purchase the Motorola RAZR Developer Edition, a new version of its smartphone that was unveiled on October. The latter has the advantage of a primer unlocked system. Developers and enthusiasts will then be able to install a modified version of Android.

"This solution enables us to meet our obligations vis-a-vis operators and regulators while meeting the needs expressed by our community developers", explains Motorola. It seems however that the current holders of a RAZR will not receive an update, they cannot unlock the bootloader.

Available for pre-order, the smartphone is sold at 499 euros. Subsequently, more documentation will be made available to the community. In the past, the tablet friendly Motorola XOOM Android 3.1 was also released. More and more manufacturers meet the demands of developers. In May, HTC had said they wanted an unlock for its future smartphones as well. Last October Sony Ericsson announced its support for a group called FreeXperia for creating ROM based on the work of CyanogenMod.

There will be a new version of Xbox 360 called Xbox 720, the shipping is said to be started in October or November next year and it’s mass production will be starting by the end of the next year. As far as the specification is concerned it will be using AMD’s 6000 graphics processor which has already been introduced in the last year in console’s and the power games, the graphic power in this device will be same as that of the Radeon HD 6670. It is said to be providing six times better processing as compared to that of the Xbox 360 we have, it will be supporting DirectX11, multi-display output, 3D and 1080p HD output, the cost of this super Xbox 720 is not yet revealed.

Mozilla FireFox 10 now available

Mozilla Corporation today launched Firefox 10, just 6 weeks after the version 9 was launched, it is very interesting to see the rapid release cycle adapted by the Mozilla corporation to compete with its competitors like Opera and Google Chrome. In a span of just 9 months it has come from version 4 to version 10. A new version of Firefox now comes out every six weeks. FF10 is compatible with Windows, Macs, Linux machines and Android.

FireFox 10 comes with a lots of bug fixes, improved extension support, a forward button that hides itself when not needed, APIs for full-screen web apps and last but not the least multi-touch gesture support for the android users.

The earlier versions had some problems with the extension compatibility and hence it has been fixed in the Firefox 10. Firefox 10 will also allow add-ons to silently and automatically update themselves in the background.

This current version of Firefox i.e. Firefox 10 is notable for being the first Extended Support Release version, now if you are wondering what it is then it is a program made for the growing concerns of enterprise users and also IT professionals, that have laid concerns over the idea of rapid updates among the browsers. Now with the Extended Support Release version there would be only bug-fixes and security fixes. No drastic changes to the browser would be done and if it has to be done then it would happen only once in every 42 weeks.

LG is soon going to launch triple SIM mobile phones

The triple sim mobile phone sectors were highly dominated by players like Micromax and Intex mobiles. Now LG is planning to enter the triple SIM market soon. LG has already announced a product named A290 as well.

A290 is said to have a 2.2-inch and will measure 113.5 x 51 x 12.95mm. it will have a 1.3 megapixel camera and will have a 500 mAH battery. However it is not sure whether we would be able to keep all the 3 sims active in a time.

Though there is no details about the expected release date in Asia but it is going to hit the Russian markets by the end of February. Price range is expected to be anywhere around Rs. 4950. Looking at the popularity of multi sim phones in the Indian market LG wont further delay the release in india.

A few hours after the release of Firefox 10 version of its classic browser for windows platform, Mozilla Foundation now also offers an update for its mobile application version on Android.

The Firefox 10 version for Mobile is now available in the Android Market. The mobile phone users will also observe a more enjoyable surfing with font smoothing supported by WebGL. Also made of layers is done via OpenGL ES. In addition to bug fixes, Mozilla also announced that it is easier to configure the Synchronization Wizard of Firefox to retrieve passwords, history or favorites. Note that the browser still does not have the Flash Player.

I have heard that Flash for Android Enabled Landed for native front-end expectations in Firefox 11, for Android 2.3 and earlier. (Support for Flash on Android 3.0 and later will come in a later release.) Still i prefer opera which is better than firefox, cause sometimes firefox reacts strange in behaviour.

We might be familiar with the Nikon Coolpix P310 and Nikon Coolpix P500 but now Nikon has recently (Jan. 31, 2012) announced Nikon Coolpix P510, it can be said as a replacement for Nikon Coolpix P500 . As far as its feature is concerned it is having a 42x optical zoom lens which will be having range between 24mm to 1000mm and it is having a 16.1 megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor, which was there in the Nikon Coolpix P310 as well. It Is said to be having an ISO range of up to 3200 or a Hi 1 setting and it is also having Nikon’s lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) function. I have been checking out the same and I am really impressed with it, the built in GPS feature sound more interesting and I am willing to get it soon, I have not yet found any sites revealing the actual cost of it, is there anyone who has an idea about the approximate cost of it?? Will it be a bit higher as compared to the Nikon Coolpix P500 or there is higher difference between them??

Surely this card will be costlier but it is a kind of better choice for gamers. Anyhow they are going to risk their system for performance and might burn out the same. It is good to hear that MSI added really something cool to keep card stable for longer time. But wouldn't this will degrade the life span of card. That can only be concluded after using the card for sometime.

With this Prada Phone 3.0 (P940), LG continues logically into the path initiated at the first two models released in 2006 and 2008. The first appears, therefore, more attractive, with a plastic leather look at the back, containing the pattern of Italian brand, coupled with a front glass which is uniformly black, that only further enhances the Prada logo. It features a 4.3 inch display screen with 800 x 480 pixels and capable to provide a brightness of 800 nits (against about 600 for an iPhone, or 700 for a Droid X2).

The unit is powered by a dual-core processor (OMAP 4430) and 1 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of flash memory dedicated to storage, which we can increase via micro SD card. Also on the program: a camera with 8 megapixel and flash, doubled in front of a sensor (1.3 MP), WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0, a radio tuner and a chip of A-GPS. All offers relatively contained dimensions (127.5 x 69 mm) with a limited thickness of 8.5 mm. 1540 mAh battery is also placed whose weight amounted to 138 grams.

The software customization is very much sought. Widgets are very nice, similar to the personalization seen in other LG phone but with a more refined skin. The system moves really well, fast and responsive in all departments and potentially able to withstand a confrontation with the top range on the market today.

Windows Phone 8 Features

Senior vice president and Windows Phone manager Joe Belfiore hosted a video showing the brand new Detail concept of upcoming Windows Phone 8 (Code name Apollo, originally intended for Microsoft’s smartphone partners). Apollo will be released probably after the release of Windows Tango update. The Video is about the features and themes included in Windows phone 8.

As per the hardware, Microsoft is obviously taking it to the next level with the help of multiple cores, NFC, and full microSD card storage. Apollo (WP8) will also be compatible with 4 different screen resolutions, although vice president apparently wasn’t very forthcoming with specifics on those.

Its been also heard that Apollo will support NFC radios along with additional features like tap-to-share that will work across numerous platforms, including desktop, notebook, tablet Pcs, and smartphones to all share content.

Unable to find AHCI drivers for MSI A6000

Hello people, I am posting this thread on behalf of my friend who has been facing this issue from pretty while but he is unable to find a solution for the same. Actually he is being trying to install 32-bit Windows XP Pro in his MSI A6000 and model no MS 1683 but always fails to do so as the AHCI drivers are missing. So, I wanted some help regarding this issue. Does anyone know, where I can find the AHCI drivers, so that we can easily install Windows XP in my friends system. Please, help me.
A drivers disk must have come along with your MSI A6000. You should use that particular original drivers CD in order to install the AHCI drivers along with all the other necessary drivers which is required by your system. Search for that particular drivers CD along with other accessories which came along with your MSI A6000. Insert the drivers disk in your DVD/CD drive and allow the system to detect the uninstalled drivers and automatically install them.
If you are asking for my suggestion then I would recommend you to disable the AHCI instead of trying to install the drivers for it. You can disable the AHCI by going to the BIOS settings. I have come across many people who have said that it is better to disable AHCI in the Windows XP running system as it creates more troubles then helping in something. AHCI is not worth trying for Windows XP running system but it is compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7.
If you still wish to install the AHCI drivers in your MSI A6000 in order to install Windows XP in your system then I would suggest you to visit the nearest computer shop and get the drivers CD if you are unable to find the drivers CD which was provided to you at the time of purchase. Or else for better and proper result, I would suggest you to visit MSI store and ask them to provide you with the necessary drivers CD according to your system.
You can also search for the required AHCI drivers for your MSI A6000 on Internet. You will definitely find many links where you can easily download the drivers. But for more safety and accuracy, I would recommend you to visit the official website of MSI and search for all the drivers available for the particular model of laptop which you are using. From the list of drivers, you can either download the drivers which you want at present, the AHCI drivers or you can download the entire pack of all the drivers.

If later we get Windows Vista or Windows 7 installer CD, will turning off AHCI create problems?
I would like to inform you that the AHCI is particularly for Windows Vista and later operating systems. So most probably you won’t be facing any kind of trouble. But you should make sure that you set the AHCi before you actually install the Operating System. Also, one should remember that AHCI drivers are already installed at the time of installing the Windows XP OS. The system will prompt to use a floppy and install the drivers by hitting the F6 function key. Personally, I feel that AHCI is more of a trouble in Windows XP system.

Dial Pad stops working once call gets connected in Skype

Hey guys I am running 64-bit Windows 7 in my system. I have been using Skype messenger to call my friends and family. But recently I have started facing this very irritating problem which using the dial pad. Once the call gets connected, the Dial Pad stops responding. It stops working completely. Usually when performing the cal, we are asked to enter three different selections, press 1 for English, 2 for account information and 3 for all get info about the recent activities which you were involved in. But now when I am trying to enter my account number, the dial pad will start up with its problem and makes weird noises. What must be the problem and how I can solve the issue more efficiently?

There are two ways of making calls using the Dial Pad. Either you can use the Graphic on screen interface or the keyboard in order to make call. So, first of all I would like to suggest you that, if you are using the keyboard in order to make calls, then I would recommend you to try using the Graphic on screen interface inorder to complete the call. Or else if you are using the Graphic on screen interface then you should probably try using the graphic on screen interface to solve the issue. By doing so, you will get a clear view which among both is better.

According to me the problem might be occurring because you are using wrong dial pad. So, first make sure that the dial pad which you where using were compatible with your system and whether it is the right one for you. Sometimes the problem occurs when you are using some application which is not at all compatible with your system. If the Dial Pad which you have installed seems to be not working one for you, then I would suggest you to search for a compatible one on Internet.

The problem might also occur if the Skype software which you are using to create call is outdated or if you are using an earlier version of Skype in your system. So, I would recommend you to make sure that you have updated your Skype application which you have installed in your system. You can update the Skype directly, by starting the GUI of Skype and then clicking on Help and then on Update option in the drop down list. This will make the system search for the new updates for your Skype and download the updates for the same on Internet.
You mentioned that you are running 64-bit Windows 7 Operating system. So I would suggest you to first make sure that you have installed 64-bit Skype software in your system. If there is difference between the version of software and your OS (32-bit software application and 64-bit OS) then there is a possibility that both won’t be compatible with each other and will surely create some kind of issues and will hamper the normal functioning of each other while running the app to you.

First, I am running 64bit version of the Skype application. Also the Skype which is installed din my system is updated. But I am sorry that I did not give you all the updates about the issue. The problem actually started, after I updated Skype application, all this trouble started occurring. So can anyone tell me now, what must be the issue and what I can do in order to solve the problem?
This issue seems to be some kind of problem from the Skype side and not with your system. So, the only suggestion which I can give you at this moment is to wait for the new updates to release. I am sure Skype officials might have noticed this issue as many people are complaining about it and they will surely be working on the issue and get it solved. Or else uninstall the Skype that you have installed and download the version of Skype which was working perfectly fine without any issues.

Hey guys please help me. I am stuck in between very irritating problem. I have been using Skype messenger in my Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) running system from pretty some time now. Recently I came across few videos on youtube which mentioned that it is possible for any user to log in into the same computer using two different Skype account at the same time by using the Secondary account. But when I am trying the following I am getting Disk I/O error message. I tried this many times, but only to get the same error. Please help me solving my problem. Help will be appreciated.

I have got a solution but the only issue in using the following is that you will be losing all your chat history and you will have to reset all the changes that you made in any options. If you agree to the following then just follow the below few steps:

Quit any instance of Skype.
Press and hold the Windows key and then hit the 'r' key in order to see the run dialog box
Type the following %appdata%\skype\ and click ok
A folder will appear that must be consisting of your Skype name. Just delete the folder
Restart Skype and access your account

I also faced this same irritating issue while using Skype at my place. I even tried contacting the customer Service of Skype, but with no help and only disappointment. Finally what I did is, just disabled the user account controls on my Windows 7 running system. And, voila, Skype started working again and that too without giving me any issue or errors. Hey guys I have been using Skype from very long time, but recently I started facing issues while using it. Once done with downloading, install the following and start using the older version of Skype. Make sure that you don’t update the Skype.
I searched on Internet about your issue and came across the following solution which had worked for many, so I would suggest you the same :

Go to the following location: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Plugin Manager). Here you will find ezPMUtils.dll file.
What you need to do is just move the following file into the MIs file. That’s it.

Without warning, Google has quietly removed the iGoogle Web site formatted for the iPhone. The iPhone formatted version of iGoogle now redirects users to the generic Google Web site formatted for mobile devices. The version of the page that was unique to the iPhone, optimized for Mobile Safari and offered sections that were expandable or collapsible used to display custom gadgets.

Google so far appears to still be developing its Google application--voice searches, Google Earth app and we've previously seen enhancements to the iPhone Maps app (like Street View, walking directions, public transit, etc.) for the iPhone.

Many embedded applications require volatile RAM for temporary data storage, or for use as a scratchpad, for bulk processing and for math algorithms. In many cases, this RAM is embedded within the microcontroller (MCU). In the past, the most viable way to add more RAM was to buy a larger MCU, which could add unnecessary feature overhead and increase design costs. The only alternative was to add large, parallel-access RAM devices that use up large numbers of I/O pins. Microchip's serial SRAM devices provide a simple, inexpensive way for designers to add more RAM to their application while keeping the same MCU, or even using a smaller one if replacing parallel external RAM with serial RAM. Additionally, the devices feature a bus speed of 20 MHz for fast access, and low operating and standby currents to help extend battery life. The malicious program - also known as Downadup or Kido - was first discovered in October 2008.

Although the spread of the worm appears to be levelling off, there are fears someone could easily take control of any and all of the 9.5m infected PCs.

Speaking to the BBC, F-Secure's chief research officer, Mikko Hypponen, said there was still a real risk to users.

"Total infections appear to be peaking. That said, a full count is hard, because we also don't know how many machines are being cleaned. But we estimate there are still more than 9m infected PCs world wide.

"It is scary thinking about how much control they [a hacker] could have over all these computers. They would have access to millions of machines with full administrator rights.

"But they haven't done that yet, maybe they're scared. That's good news. But there is also the scenario that someone else figures out how to activate this worm. That is a worrying prospect."

Despite some over-conservative expectations and reports, Intel Corp. is on track to release its central processing units (CPUs) with integrated graphics cores this year, the company said during its most recent conference call with financial analysts.

Answering the question from Hans Mosesmann – an analyst from Raymond James, a financial services holding company – Stacy Smith, chief financial officer of Intel, said that the code-named Havendale processor with integrated graphics core for desktop and mobile computers will be available "in the second half" of this year.

Intel's Havendale processor is a multi-chip module (MCM) in LGA1160 form-factor containing Nehalem micro-architecture-based dual-core CPU in addition to graphics and memory controller hub (GMCH) that features dual-channel DDR3 memory controller, PCI Express 2.0 x16 interface to connect add-on graphics cards as well as integrated graphics core. Google's Knol website has recently received its 100,000th article, known as knol, and the search engine was pleased to announce on its official blog that things were starting to go its way. The rapid expansion of the new website, which is only 5 months old, is nothing but good news, and everybody at Google expressed their admiration for the thousands of users that wrote on the site, contributing to its increasing database. Bad mouths have it that Google is currently going after Wikipedia, attempting to reclaim the first returned result to query position that the free encyclopedia owns for most one- or two-word searches.

We were somewhat skeptical of what kind of advantage Google could provide to selling ads in physical publications (initially magazines) when the program launched in 2005. At best, we thought that the relationship with advertisers could maybe bring in some advertisers who didn't traditionally advertise in print. But, there was no way to provide the customization and contextualization that made Google's ad programs online so effective. And, indeed, the original program was something of a failure. The company then took a second shot, which seemed to get a lukewarm thumbs up from some newspapers, but it was hardly a rousing success.

And, indeed, the company has now admitted that they're killing off the program -- which seems unlikely to be missed. There's certainly nothing wrong with experimenting with new business models and ideas, but it was never really clear what true advantage Google provided in this space, and the shut down pretty much confirms that the answer was that there wasn't much of an advantage.

Kaspersky is reporting this morning that a Trojan affecting Symbian systems looks to transfer money from the accounts of users of a certain mobile phone operator and into the accounts of someone else, presumably the person or persons responsible for the malware. The Trojan's not new but the target certain is.

Written in Python, the malware as per Kaspersky, Trojan-SMS.Python.Flocker, versions .ab through .af sends an SMS message with an instruction to transfer money from the user's mobile account to the other account. The amounts are rather small (under a dollar), but obviously if the infection becomes widespread, such things can add up without triggering a reaction from any scammed individual.

profit drops by 69 percent in fourth quarter

The world's top mobile phone maker, Nokia Corp., on Thursday said its profits fell 69 percent in the fourth quarter as the economic downturn slowed handset sales.

Net profit was euro576 million (US$743.62 million), down from euro1.84 billion in the same period in 2007.

Sales fell 19.5 percent to euro12.7 billion, from euro15.8 billion.

The results came in below expectations, sending Nokia shares down more than 5 percent in Helsinki to euro9.66 ($12.47).

The Finnish company gave a bleak outlook for the industry, saying it expects global mobile device volumes to drop 10 percent in 2009 compared to last year.

Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said the industry has been hit by "weaker consumer confidence, unprecedented currency volatility and credit tightness."

"We are taking action to reduce overall costs and to preserve our strong capital structure. This is clearly our top priority in the current economic environment," Kallasvuo said.

Nokia said its share of the handset market fell to 37 percent, down from 38 percent in the previous quarter and 40 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007.

The company said it expects to maintain its market share at the same level in the first three months of 2009, and maintains its target of increasing market share in the full year.

Adamo And Dell Team Up For MacBook Air Rival

A recent dig through Dell's trademarks turned up a couple of curiosities – "Adamo" and "Adamo by Dell."According to the documents, the trademarks cover computer hardware, including possibly desktops and laptops.

The whole "Adamo by Dell" bit sounds rather fancy for a company that lumps all of its computers under just a handful of brands. But, apparently, this computer isn't your regular Dell computer. It has its own Web site after all, which says the product is coming soon.

Throw Adamo and Dell into a search engine, and you get nothing. Well, make that almost nothing.

A luxury goods publication appears to have some early marketing collateral from Dell for Adamo. "Rumor has it that Dell is coming out with a computer called Adamo that will rival the MacBook Air," Uptownlife.net writes.

But most telling of all might have been the reaction of Michael Tatelman, Dell's vice president in charge of consumer sales and marketing, to my question about whether or not Dell had an Air-like product in store. Mr. Tatelman's mouth gaped open and his eyes darted away from my face.

If looks could reveal product dimensions, then I'd guess that Dell's going even thinner and lighter than Apple.

After a couple of moments, Mr. Tatleman said, "I think we need to get some iconic products out there, so people associate Dell's brand with other things." Namely, that's goodbye to clunky, and hello to sleek.

Apple beats expectations with record earnings

Apple on Wednesday reported it finished 2008 with record quarterly profit of 1.61 billion dollars, with iPod sales hitting an
all-time high.

The iconic California company posted revenue of $10.17 billion in the three months ending December 27, 2008 and declared quarterly earnings of $1.78 per share.

Analysts had forecast Apple earnings of 1.29 dollars
per share for the quarter.

The results topped the profit of $1.58 billion, or $ 1.76 per share, seen by the firm in the same quarter a year earlier.

"Even in these economically challenging times, we are incredibly pleased to report our best quarterly revenue and earnings in Apple history, surpassing $10 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time ever," Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said in a written release.

Microsoft cutting jobs, but not products

Although Microsoft is cutting jobs, the software maker apparently isn't axing any major products as part of its cost-cutting moves.

On a conference call with analysts Thursday, though, CEO Steve Ballmer defended the company's decision to stick by all of its businesses, even as it looks to cut up to 5,000 jobs.

"I like our portfolio," Ballmer said on the conference call. "The board likes our portfolio," he said, before moving on to the next question.

But should they be so pleased?

Microsoft itself acknowledged on the call that it does not have the leading position in several of its emerging businesses. The company makes the bulk of its money from Windows and Office. It also has a server software business that is profitable and fast-growing.
However, the software maker has struggled to attain profitability in its entertainment unit, its cell phone software unit remains small, and its online efforts continue to lose significant money.

Thus far, Microsoft has announced plans to cut only one product, its Windows Live OneCare security service. Even that one will be replaced by a new, free product code-named Morro.

Blackberry settles case with SEC

Executives from Ontario-based telecoms firm Research in Motion (RIM)
makers of the BlackBerry have agreed to pay fines of at least 1.4
million US dollars following a financial watchdog's probe into its
stock issuing practices.

Co-Chief Executive Officers Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis and two
of the firm's other senior managers agreed to pay the US Securities
and Exchange Commission the fine following allegations that they had
illegally back-dated stock options, potentially distorting the firms
earnings.

RIM said in a statement that through the settlement the group neither
admitted nor denied the allegations.

Earlier this month the firm's bosses made a similar deal with
regulators of the Toronto Stock Exchange after it emerged that they
may have wrongly backdated stock options for staff as far back as
1996.

HP's Linux support will no longer be limited to Red Hat and SuSE
Linux. Through a new partnership with Canonical, HP is becoming one of
the latest in a series of huge IT players to hop aboard the Ubuntu
Linux bandwagon.

More specifically, HP and Linux distributor Canonical are now working
toward full certification of Ubuntu on HP Proliant servers, according
to Mark Murphy, Canonical's alliances manager.

"This will give another layer of assurance to users and customers --
particularly in the enterprise -- with market leader HP recognizing
the growing importance of Ubuntu to enterprise and SMB customers,"
Murphy wrote in the Canonical Blog on Monday. "The certification means
HP will list Ubuntu as a supported operating system and verify the
work undertaken by Canonical to ensure full certified compatibility.
Furthermore, both companies are fully cooperating at the engineering
level to provide full underlying confidence for HP customers using the
certified servers."

Meanwhile, earlier this month, HP released an Ubuntu-based custom OS
for its Mini 1000 Mi Edition netbook.

Like IBM, although not in the same ways, HP is now adding Ubuntu to a
roster of Linux distributions previously limited to Red Hat and
Novell's SuSE Linux.

Mozilla and Skype join the EFF

While the U.S. government is poised to revise the DMCA (Digital
Millennium Copyright Act) to protect copyright in the digital age, the
EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) asked what practices jailbreaking
of the iPhone is permitted as an exception. Today we learn that
Mozilla and Skype share this position.

Last Monday, in response to this demand, Apple has provided on its
official positions facing jailbreaking "jailbreak techniques widely
generalized use of unauthorized modification of bootloader and the OS
(...) which leads to a violation of Skype, placed on these programs,
"explained the firm's lawyers from Cupertino. This is not a surprise
since Apple developers have repeatedly filled the gaps in the system
used by third party programmers.

More precisely, if this exception proposed by the EFF was accepted
into the DMCA, Apple would still be able to take legal action against
developers modifying the system's internal phone book. However, the
practices of jailbreaking, designed to break the protection measures
implemented by Apple, would facilitate the work of hackers.

John Lilly, CEO of Mozilla Corporation, says his side is the side of
the EFF."This is not to criticize Apple," he says, "but it is a matter
of principle. The user should have the choice, which should not lead
to repercussions. The Mozilla Foundation has never proposed Fennec,
its mobile version of Firefox under development for the iPhone but
Apple has stated that software competing with those embedded by
default on the phone are not accepted within the App Store. Anyway
John Lilly says that even if the exception of the jailbreak were to be
accepted by the regulators of the DMCA, Mozilla probably does not
venture on the side of the iPhone.

Engineering the Windows 7 Boot

As we connect through this blog and through all of those talking about
Windows 7 it is clear that folks have a lot of passion around many
topics. We learned early on about the passion around the boot/startup
sequence and how important it was for that to go by quickly! At the
same time, we know that it is really dull to watch a HDD light blink
when resuming a machine from hibernate or powering up a machine. To
improve this first connection with people, we set out to improve the
boot sequence—jazz it up if you will. It sounds pretty easy, but as we
looked into solving this we found it is a pretty significant
engineering challenge. Our goal was to have fun while having no impact
on the boot performance of the system. To explain this engineering and
describe the boot sequence, Karen Wong, a program manager on our Core

Siemens Survey Reveals Low Awareness

Given the growing strain placed on the power grid every day and the
increasing demand for data processing and storage, corporations have
no choice but to start identifying areas to amplify energy
efficiencies immediately. However, according to a Siemens survey
released today, many companies are uncertain about how to best
accomplish new efficiency expectations. The new study, which examined
general IT efficiency attitudes and practices, revealed nearly three
quarters of the Fortune 2000 respondents (87%) believe it is important
to pursue overall energy efficient practices, but only 48% have a
stated goal to reduce their carbon footprint, and even less have begun
to take action.

"As businesses continue to search for ways to save money and alleviate
the strain on the power grid, green technology across the board is
becoming a necessity rather than just 'the right thing to do' --
examining and implementing data center efficiencies is one major area
we cannot overlook," stated Ken Cornelius, CEO of Siemens One, a
business unit of German engineering giant, Siemens AG. "If we do not
start looking closely at our data centers now, 70% of the world's data
centers will have tangible system disruptions by 2011 and the systems
will experience world-wide brown outs over the course of the next five
years."

Data centers alone account for 2.5% of the world's energy use, which
is expected to grow by an astonishing 12% a year, placing even more
unnecessary strain on the power grid. The EPA notes that the energy
used by datacenters in the U.S. is more than the electricity consumed
by all of the nation's color TV sets and comparable to the electricity
consumption of approximately 5.8 million homes. According to the
survey, a majority (65%) of leading Fortune 2000 companies recently
reported that the costs of running their data centers have increased
over the last few years, which certainly is no surprise given the
growing number of data centers across the U.S.

Intel Notifies AMD of Cross-License Breach Efforts to

Intel Corporation today disclosed that the company has notified
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) that it believes AMD has breached a 2001
patent cross-license agreement with Intel. Intel believes that Global
Foundries is not a subsidiary under terms of the agreement and is
therefore not licensed under the 2001 patent cross-license agreement.
Intel also said the structure of the deal between AMD and ATIC
breaches a confidential portion of that agreement. Intel has asked AMD
to make the relevant portion of the agreement public, but so far AMD
has declined to do so. AMD's breach could result in the loss of
licenses and rights granted to AMD by Intel under the agreement.

"Intellectual property is a cornerstone of Intel's technology
leadership and for more than 30 years, the company has believed in the
strategic importance of licensing intellectual property in exchange
for fair value. However AMD cannot unilaterally extend Intel's
licensing rights to a third party without Intel's consent," said Bruce
Sewell, senior vice president and general counsel for Intel. "We have
attempted to address our concerns with AMD without success since
October. We are willing to find a resolution but at the same time we
have an obligation to our stockholders to protect the billions of
dollars we've invested in intellectual property."
Under terms of the license agreement the notification to AMD means the
parties will attempt to resolve the dispute through mediation. In
response to the notification AMD claimed Intel breached the agreement
by notifying AMD of its breach. Intel believes that position is
inconsistent with the dispute resolution process outlined in the

long-anticipated features, such as copy-and-paste of text and picture

Apple also gave its vast network of software developers a slew of new
options for upcoming applications, such as support for subscription
models and automatic alerts, a move applauded by analysts.

"They've taken a few more steps ahead of the pack in the race," said
CCS Insight analyst John Jackson, adding that, in spite of the
omission of certain features until now, the iPhone was still the most
high-profile cell phone.

Google Releases Faster Chrome Web

Google released a new version of its Chrome Web browser on Tuesday, as
the search giant continues its efforts to get a foothold in a market
dominated by Microsoft.

The new Chrome represents the first major update of the software aimed
at the general public since Google entered the browser business six
months ago.

It offers Web surfers faster performance and a handful of new
features, such as auto-filling of personal information on online forms
and a new way for users to drag around tabs of different Web pages
within the browser window.

Google was a distant No 4 in the browser market, with 1.2 per cent
share of the worldwide market in February, according to market
research firm Net Applications. Microsoft's Internet Explorer
dominates the market, with a 67.4 per cent market share in February,
while the Mozilla foundation's Firefox browser had a roughly 22 per
cent share.

Apple's Safari browser had an 8 per cent share. Last month, Google
officially joined the European Union's antitrust case against
Microsoft, describing the browser market as "largely uncompetitive."

The EU has charged Microsoft with abusing its dominant market position
by bundling its Internet Explorer Web browser with its Windows
personal computer operating system. According to a post on Google's
blog on Tuesday, the new Chrome beta loads certain types of Web pages
25 per cent to 35 per cent faster than the current version of the
browser.

ORACLE sustains healthy contract signings

Oracle Corporation's sales force pulled off a big feat in the business
software maker's latest quarter, sustaining a healthy clip of contract
signings amid a dreary time for technology spending.

The efforts helped push Oracle's sales and profit above Wall Street's
forecasts. Oracle also surprised investors by declaring its first
dividend, a rare sign of confidence that comes as other bellwethers
are cutting or suspending their dividends to save money.

Oracle's shares jumped $1.11, or 7 percent, to $16.94 in after-hours
trading Wednesday after Oracle reported its results. The stock had
gained 43 cents, or 2.8 percent, to close the regular trading session
at $15.83.

Oracle's chief executive, Larry Ellison, called the numbers a
"tremendous achievement in the face of the serious slowdown in the
world economy."

In Oracle's fiscal third quarter, which covers December-February,
Oracle said it earned $1.33 billion, or 26 cents per share, versus
$1.34 billion, also 26 cents per share, in the year-ago period.

Subtracting out one-time charges, profit was 35 cents per share. That
was 3 cents better than the average estimate from analysts polled by
Thomson Reuters on that same basis.

Sales were $5.45 billion, a 2 percent increase over last year, though
Oracle said revenue would have jumped 11 percent without the effect of
a stronger dollar, which meant deals done in other currencies weren't
worth as much in dollars.

Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company began in Louisville's stockyard
district more than 100 years ago and recently expanded to Indianapolis

"The backup and recovery system installed by IBM and IBM Business
Partner Software Information Systems, is providing greater reliability

expansion units, and VMware virtualization software.
